How the grade is worked out

Each category's score counts in proportion to its weight:

grade = Σ(weight × score) / Σ weight

Dividing by the total weight means it still works before every category is graded, it shows your standing on the work counted so far. A category with a blank score (not graded yet) is left out rather than counted as zero; every category with a score needs its weight. When all weights add up to 100, that's your final grade. Computed in your browser.

What this does

A grade calculator finds your overall grade from weighted categories like homework, quizzes, and exams — enter each category’s weight and your score for a percentage and letter.

How to use it

  1. Add each category.
  2. Enter its weight.
  3. Enter your score.
  4. Read the overall grade.

How it works

Dividing by the total weight gives a fair standing even before every category is graded. When weights total 100%, the result is your final grade.

grade = Σ (score × weight) ÷ Σ weight

Understanding your result

The percentage is your standing given the weights you entered, so it stays fair even before every category is graded. The categories with the largest weight are where effort pays off most, so look at which heavy component is dragging the total down rather than chasing easy points in a low-weight category. The letter grade only finalizes once the weights sum to 100 percent.

Example

90% homework at 40% and 80% on a 60% exam is an 84% overall.

Frequently asked questions

How is the overall grade worked out?

Each category’s score is multiplied by its weight, summed, and divided by the total weight entered, so it gives a fair picture even before every category is graded.

Do the weights have to add up to 100?

No. Dividing by the total weight means partial weights still give a sensible standing. When the weights do total 100%, the result is your final grade.

What if I haven’t got a score for a category yet?

Leave its score blank. A category without a score is left out of the average rather than counted as zero (a category with a score still needs its weight), and the result says which categories it is based on.

Is my data saved?
