Privacy
Simple, safe, useful. Here is exactly what we do and don't collect.
Last updated: September 30, 2026
The short version: Everything you type into a tool stays on your device, your inputs and files are never uploaded. toolcan sets no tracking cookies and keeps nothing that identifies you, and the website currently shows no ads and sets no ad cookies. Using the toolcan app? See the app section.
Your calculations stay on your device
Every toolcan tool runs entirely in your browser. The numbers, text, and files you put into a calculator, converter, or generator are processed right there on your device. Your inputs are never sent to us or uploaded anywhere.
Saved tools, collections & preferences
When you save a tool, group tools into a collection, or pick a color theme (light, dark, or system), we remember that only on your own device, using your browser's local storage. It is a list of the tools you saved, the names you gave your collections, and your theme choice, nothing more. It is never uploaded, never sent to us, and not tied to any account, there are no accounts. Clearing your browser's site data removes it. In the toolcan app the same information is kept on your device in the same private way.
What we count
To learn which tools people find useful, each time a tool page is opened on the website,
your browser sends that page's address (for example /finance/mortgage-calculator/)
to our counter. The counter adds one to that page's all-time total and to its total for the
day. That is everything it stores: a number per page, and a number per page per day.
Daily totals are deleted after 30 days; all-time totals are kept.
We do not store your IP address, we do not use cookies or other trackers for this, and
we have no way to tell who you are or to connect one visit to another. To skip obvious
bots, the counter checks your browser's user-agent string in memory and never stores it. We can
see how many times a page was used, never by whom.
The totals are public: the All tools page reads them to offer “Most popular” (all time) and “Trending” (last 7 days) sorts, and they help us choose which tools to feature. The app shows the same sorts from a copy of these totals built into it.
Cookies
toolcan sets no tracking or advertising cookies, and the website currently shows no ads, so no ad cookies are set either. Your saved tools and theme live in your browser's local storage (see above), on your device only. If we ever add ads to the website, this page will say so first, including how to control them.
Standard server logs
Like nearly every website, our web host automatically keeps standard access logs for security and reliability. For each request they record details such as the IP address it came from, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and the browser's user-agent string (which names the browser and operating system). The logs are kept by the host under its log settings. We do not use them to identify you or to build a profile of you, and we don't combine them with anything else.
The toolcan app (iPhone and Android)
The app contains the same tools, bundled inside it, and works offline. In the app:
- Your inputs and files stay on your device. Tools run inside the app; nothing you type or open is sent to toolcan or anyone else. A file you create leaves the device only if you share or save it somewhere yourself.
- Your saved tools and collections, your theme, and whether you own toolcan Pro are stored only on your device. There are no accounts, and the app doesn't connect to any toolcan server.
- Purchases of toolcan Pro are handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account or Google Account. The app checks whether you own Pro using the purchase records the store keeps on your device.
- No usage counting. The app doesn't send the anonymous per-tool count the website uses.
Ads in the free app (Google AdMob)
The free version shows one banner ad from Google AdMob, delivered by Google's Mobile Ads software inside the app. toolcan Pro removes the ad, and toolcan never asks Google for consent or ads for Pro users.
- Non-personalized ads only. The app asks Google not to personalize ads. It also turns on Google's restricted data processing for everyone, under which Google says it will "further limit how it uses data and begin serving non-personalized ads only". On iPhone, the app never asks for permission to track you, so your device's advertising identifier isn't available to it. On Android, the app blocks Google's ad software from reading your advertising ID (it sees only zeros) and from using Android's ad-interest and ad-measurement features.
- What Google's ad software collects. According to Google, it may collect your IP address (which may be used to estimate your general location); device identifiers (on iPhone, an identifier limited to apps from the same developer; on Android, the app set ID, which is also limited to apps from the same developer, and, in Google's words, "if applicable, other identifiers related to signed-in accounts on the device"); information about the ads shown to you; your interactions with the app, such as launches and taps; and diagnostic information such as crash logs and performance data. Google uses this for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention.
- Apple's ad attribution (SKAdNetwork, iPhone only). The app lists the ad networks Google works with in Apple's privacy-preserving ad attribution system, SKAdNetwork. If you tap an ad and then install and open the advertised app, your iPhone may send those networks a report, signed by Apple, that an ad led to the install. Apple says the information it signs in these reports "doesn't include user- or device-specific data".
- Consent. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU, UK, and Switzerland), Google's consent message asks for your choice before any ad is requested, and Settings → Privacy choices lets you change it at any time. Ads are only requested when your choices allow it.
- Reporting an ad. If an ad looks inappropriate or misleading, use Settings → Report an ad to email us so we can look into it.
Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. toolcan itself receives none of it beyond aggregate ad reports (for example, how many ads were shown).
How Google protects this data
Apart from the store that handles a Pro purchase, Google's ad software is the only third party that receives data from the app; toolcan shares nothing with anyone else. Google lists AdMob among the services covered by the Google Ads Controller-Controller Data Protection Terms. In those terms Google commits that it "will comply with the obligations applicable to it under the Applicable Data Protection Legislation" when it processes this data and, for personal information covered by California's privacy law, that it "will provide the same level of privacy protection as is required by CCPA".
Retention & deletion
- On your device. Your saved tools, collections, and theme (and, in the app, whether you own Pro) stay on your device until you remove them in Saved, change them in Settings, clear this site’s data in your browser, or delete the app. Your tool inputs aren't saved at all.
- Your device backups. If you back up your device, the app's data is included in your own backup, like any other app's. On iPhone, Apple says “iCloud Backup includes app data for the apps that you've downloaded on your device.” On Android, apps take part in Google's Auto Backup by default, which keeps app data in a private folder in your Google Drive account when backup is turned on. Those backups belong to your own account; toolcan can't see them.
- toolcan. We keep nothing about you: no account, no profile, and no copy of anything you enter. The website's anonymous page counts and the host's access logs are described above.
- Google. Google keeps ad data under its own policies; see How Google retains data we collect.
To delete what's stored on your device, remove it in Saved or clear this site’s data (or delete the app). Because toolcan holds no personal data, there is nothing for us to look up, export, or delete. Requests about ad data handled by Google can be made directly to Google through the Google Privacy Policy.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data. Because the website keeps nothing that identifies you and shows no ads, there is no account or profile for us to look up, export, or delete. For the app, see the app section.
Children’s privacy
toolcan is a general-audience site, is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes & questions
This page describes our practices honestly and is kept in step with how the site actually works. If anything we collect ever changes, we’ll update this page first. Questions? Reach us via the contact page.
