Passphrase Generator
Generate memorable, high-entropy passphrases from the EFF diceware wordlist (7,776 words). Choose the number of words, separator and extras, with a live strength estimate. Built in your browser.
How it works
Each word is chosen independently and uniformly at random from the EFF “large” wordlist of 7,776 words, using your browser's cryptographically secure random generator. Because the list is fixed and public, the strength comes entirely from the randomness of the choice, not from the words being secret.
entropy (bits) = words × log₂(7776) ≈ words × 12.9
with a digit: + log₂(10 × words)
That makes a five-word passphrase about 65 bits, strong, and far easier to remember and type than an equivalent random-character password.
Nothing is sent anywhere. Passphrases are generated locally in your browser and never stored or transmitted.
What this does
A passphrase generator builds memorable, high-entropy passphrases from the EFF diceware wordlist (7,776 words), with a choice of word count, separator, and extras.
How to use it
- Choose the number of words.
- Pick a separator.
- Add optional extras.
- Copy the passphrase.
Example
A five-word EFF passphrase is about 65 bits of entropy.

Frequently asked questions
Why use a passphrase instead of a password?
A string of random words is far easier to remember and type than a jumble of symbols, yet can be just as strong. Each word from the 7,776-word EFF list adds about 12.9 bits of entropy, so a five-word phrase is roughly 65 bits.
What is the EFF wordlist?
It is the public-domain Diceware-style list published by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, chosen to avoid confusable, offensive and very short words so the phrases are easy to read and type.
Is my passphrase stored or sent?
No. Words are picked locally using your browser’s secure random generator and nothing is transmitted or saved.
