Estimated adult weight
-
Show the math
A puppy's growth is roughly linear for the first year, so its adult weight can be projected from how fast it's growing now:
adult = current weight ÷ age in weeks × 52
It is a rule of thumb, not a veterinary standard. It works best for estimates taken between about 8 and 26 weeks, gives no estimate before 8 weeks, and projects to 52 weeks, so it gives none for a dog a year old or more; "currently grown" is simply age ÷ 52 weeks. The 2019 AAHA Canine Life Stage Guidelines put the end of rapid growth at about 6–9 months, varying with breed and size, and say large breeds (45 lb or more as adults) stop growing at about 9–15 months, so this method under-reads for them late on.
Breed growth charts from your vet are more precise. Everything is calculated in your browser.
What this does
A puppy weight calculator estimates a puppy’s adult weight from its current weight and age using the linear growth-rate method.
How to use it
- Enter the current weight and pick pounds or kilograms.
- Enter the age and pick months or weeks.
- Read the projected adult weight.
- Cross-check with a breed chart.
How it works
A rule of thumb, not a veterinary standard: it projects the current growth rate to 52 weeks. It works best between about 8 and 26 weeks and gives no estimate before 8 weeks or for a dog a year old or more. The 2019 AAHA Canine Life Stage Guidelines say large breeds (45 lb or more as adults) stop growing at about 9–15 months, so it reads low for them late on.
adult ≈ current weight ÷ age in weeks × 52
Understanding your result
This projects the current growth rate out to a year, so it is most reliable between about 8 and 26 weeks. Large breeds keep growing for longer (AAHA puts the end of growth at about 9 to 15 months for them), so the estimate reads low for them late on; for a firmer number, weigh again in a few weeks and compare the trend.
Example
A 10-week pup at 5 kg projects to about 26 kg grown.

Frequently asked questions
How does it estimate adult weight?
It projects the current growth rate to 52 weeks: adult ≈ current weight ÷ age in weeks × 52. It is a rule of thumb that works best between about 8 and 26 weeks, and it gives no estimate before 8 weeks or from a year old.
Is it accurate for large breeds?
Large breeds keep growing for longer (the 2019 AAHA guidelines put the end of growth at about 9–15 months for dogs of 45 lb or more), so the estimate reads low for them late on. Breed growth charts from your vet are more precise.
