Statistics Calculator

Paste a list of numbers and get count, sum, mean, median, mode, range, quartiles, IQR, variance, and standard deviation. Calculates in your browser.

Don’t use thousands separators: a comma always starts a new number, so type 1234.5, not 1,234.5.

Show the math

Descriptive statistics summarize a list of numbers:

mean = Σx ÷ n
s = √(Σ(x − mean)² ÷ (n − 1))

Quartiles are the medians of the lower and upper halves, leaving the median out of both halves when the count is odd (the TI-83/84 method); the sample standard deviation divides by n − 1. All math runs in your browser.

What this does

A statistics calculator takes a list of numbers and returns count, sum, mean, median, mode, range, quartiles, IQR, variance, and standard deviation.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your numbers.
  2. Separate them with commas or spaces.
  3. Read the full summary as you type.
  4. Use the median and IQR when outliers skew the mean.

How it works

It reports sample statistics, dividing variance by n − 1, and finds quartiles as the medians of the lower and upper halves, leaving the median out of both halves when the count is odd (the TI-83/84 method).

mean = sum ÷ count; sample SD divides by n − 1

Understanding your result

Read the spread alongside the average, because the mean alone hides the story: a small standard deviation means the data clusters tightly, a large one means it scatters. The median resists outliers while the mean does not, so a big gap between them signals skew. These are sample statistics (dividing by n minus 1), the right choice when your data is a sample of something larger.

Example

For 2, 4, 4, 6 the mean is 4 and the sample SD is about 1.63.

Frequently asked questions

What summary measures are shown?

Count, sum, mean, median, mode, min/max range, quartiles (Q1, Q3, IQR), and sample variance and standard deviation.

Is this sample or population standard deviation?

It reports the sample statistics, dividing by n − 1. Quartiles are the medians of the lower and upper halves, with the median left out of both halves when the count is odd (the TI-83/84 method).

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser.
